All over the Facebook Mustang group people are swapping automatic transmissions into their manual mustangs. What the hell?
No one here is defending the manual, the 10-speed is their god. I think we’ve got 2 generations before it’s all auto everything always.

They’re actually doing trans swaps to get rid of the extra pedal? That’s crazy.
In what? Foxstangs?

Wouldn’t have just been cheaper to buy car already with an auto? that makes zero sense to me.

It sure would have. It’s got to be drag time related but still, doing that swap can’t be worth the .4 seconds you might gain.

Wouldn’t it be a lot smarter to just trade the car in than swap transmissions in a car that new?
Weird.

The ONLY reason I can fathom would be for consistency in bracket racing. There is no other good reason.

I dunno why. I know the manual has fork issues but I also heard the autos aren’t stout enough to take abuse for long.

I stopped by a local meet tonight for a few minutes and had to explain to some kids that I don’t drag race, but that yes I go to actual tracks. They were kind of lost.

I would go to the track more if it wasn’t so expensive. Hopefully going in October. I might need to try this AutoX thing...

15 years and we are hosed for manuals in any non small run vehicle? That makes me sad... It’s clearly coming. We should do a poll - what year do folks think the last model year will be for a mass market manual transmission vehicle?

I don’t know why it’s worth it to swap a tranny instead of buy the auto, but it makes sense to me that no one is defending the manual on the Mustang when you consider the original mission of this car. It was created to be a cheap, sporty coupe for the masses , style over substance.

And that’s still what it is for the most part. The manual EcoBoost with the Performance Pack is still an enthusiast car. I’ve got 335hp, LSD, manual, big brakes, and fancy tires and it cost less than a new Civic Si. I honestly wouldn’t buy a 5.0 after owning the Eco, it can’t be that much better of a car with 200lbs extra over the front axle.

It’s cool that it’s evolved into a legitimate sports car in the right build, but still remained affordable and accessible. But given its nature it kinda makes sense that a large number of people who call themselves Mustang enthusiasts and hang out on FB would be auto people.
The swap from manual thing still confuses me though.

G ood news is, looks like those mustang transmissions will be the next go to for manual swaps once they get a little older

New V8 Mustang is like $40k now. Special editions beyond that are $45-50k or more.
Aside from outright rich folk, only boomers have the cash and credit to finance a $40-50k fun car in noticeably large numbers .
Boomers ain’t give no fucks about the manual; the other $40-50k cars they buy are Trucks, luxury stuff from Europe and the vette. Minus the vette, the manual is either dead and gone already or being smothered to death everywhere else .
And that right there is the recipe for manual-to-auto swaps on new mustangs. Won’t be shocked at all if Ford kills the manual for the mustang in 5-10 years.
After they turn it into a crossover, of course.

Facebook groups are basically the Craigslist of social media. There’s some gold there, but also a metric fuckton of shit in the way. And there’s effectively no built knowledge either because Facebook is a stupid platform, so all that happens is the same twenty questions get answered over and over and over again, and the same 20 mediocre and/ or sketchy as all hell builds get repeated over and over and over again.

If you’re bracket racing, you don’t need a fast car, you need a consistent car. You can still ‘beat’ a Hellcat in a GT if you drove a better race because bracket racing is about hitting your dial in time, not going for the outright fastest time possible.

Wrangler should have one through the end of this generation at least , so no earlier than 2027 based on past life cycles.

This.
I used to know a woman who used to kick major ass bracket racing. Her weapon of choice was a full size ford Bronco, and it wasn’t modded into a racecar. Consistency is the only thing that matters .
